Gender Equality

A recent article in the BBC news identified that women continue to do more household chores or housework that men.  The same headline was mentioned in November 06 and 7 years on the same headline still stays.  There may be some progress but it is not in line to meet the target by 2030 as per the goals set by the United Nations, 2023.  Why?  Gender equality is not only a fundamental human right, but a necessary foundation for a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world (UN, untitled).

Over the last month, I have heard and had discussions on the gender roles that continue to exist in society.  With articles from the BBC highlight the gender bias within society, continues to undermine our social fabric and devalues all of us.  It pulls away from the successes and huge potentials of each and everyone in the society because of the continued mindset that is not accepting change and progress.  By denying women equal rights, we deny half the population a chance to live life at its fullest. Political, economic and social equality for women will benefit all the world’s citizens. Together we can eradicate prejudice and work for equal rights and respect for all.
